Mayor Jon Mitchell wins New Bedford’s preliminary municipal election

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — The City of New Bedford announced that Jon Mitchell received the most votes in the city’s preliminary municipal election on Tuesday.
According to the city, current Mayor Mitchell finished with a total of 2,544 votes, followed by Richard Tyson Moultrie who received 357 votes. The two will go head-to-head in the upcoming November mayoral election.
Nathan Almeida took home 252 votes, Michael Janson received 238, Ryan Duarte received 156 and Xavier Cardona took home 126.
The race represents a repeat of the 2019 election, where Mayor Mitchell won with 72% of the vote.
