WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — Woonsocket Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt announced that she would be resigning her position effective immediately.

In a statement released Thursday afternoon Baldelli-Hunt said that she has done “her best” to continue her work with the town despite health concerns after she fainted at a press event in April.

“Unfortunately, my health issues have not resolved as I had hoped and the effects on me, as well as my family, have impacted my ability to continue to move the city forward,” she said. “The time has come for me to address my health and the well-being of my family.”

Baldelli-Hunt added that she was proud of her work with the city, and is grateful to her staff as well as supporters who have “made it possible…to achieve so much.”

“I have nothing but admiration and gratitude for all those who have worked tirelessly to achieve our goals,” she said. “I wish all of you the best for your future and the future of our great city.”

Baldelli-Hunt was first elected in 2013.
