Providence Mayor Brett Smiley to unveil parking meter replacement initiative

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Mayor Brett P. Smiley will be joined by Curbside Administrator Melanie Jewett to announce announce the launch of the city’s parking meter replacement initiative.

This month, the Department of Public Works had started rolling out new meters. Smiley has said that many of the meters have fallen due to disrepair over the years.

Many don’t allow residents to pay with credit cards and are managed by different companies.

The city said the initiative will help to modernize city’s parking system and enhance convenience and efficiency for residents and visitors alike.
