MBTA to run at 75% starting Monday

SOUTH ATTLEBORO – MBTA commuters seem to be approaching the light at the end of the tunnel.

The company that owns the commuter rail, Keolis International, announced Thursday that 75 percent of regular weekday commuter trains will be running again starting Monday. Last month, the company promised all trains would be running by March 30.

Some commuters doubt this, though. “That will never happen,” said Suzanne of Seekonk.

Now, with 42 more lines being added Monday, Keolis says it is ahead of schedule.

MBTA officials recently announced a free fare for a day next months for riders who pay cash and a 15 percent reduction in May for those with monthly passes. It’s expected all of this will cost MBTA about $5 million.
