McKee: 650,000 impacted by RIBridges cyber attack

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee announced Monday that 650,000 Rhode Islanders were impacted by the recent RIBridges cyber attack.

Those impacted will receive a notification letter in the mail in January with access to free credit monitoring, according to McKee.

“The good news at the moment is that Deloitte and the state are getting RIBridges securely up and running,” McKee said.

The governor added it’s important to protect not only your credit, but also your children’s.

“If a criminal has you and your child’s identifiable information they could still impersonate and initiate credit in your child’s name,” McKee said.

“If you have coverage for the first of January, please call HealthSource RI’s call center,” HealthSource RI Director Lindsay Lang said.

Lang said those impacted can utilize Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island or the Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island with a January 1 coverage start date.

“Our carriers are working to limit out-of-pocket costs customers will face in months of January and February like co-pays and deductible,” Lang said.

McKee stated that there has been progress in making sure RIBridges is up and running by the new year, and that Medicaid benefits won’t be affected.
