McKee orders all flags to half staff for Charlie Kirk in accordance with Trump order
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee has ordered all U.S. and state flags at all state buildings be brought to half-staff in memory of Charlie Kirk.
This is in accordance with an order from President Donald Trump in the wake of the Wednesday shooting death of Kirk on a college campus in Utah.
The flags will remain at half-staff through sunset Sunday, according to a statement from McKee.
“Political violence is never the answer. It’s never the way forward. And we must stand together in condemning it,” said Governor Dan McKee.
“Susan and I are praying for Charlie’s wife, young children, and everyone mourning this horrific and heartbreaking tragedy.”
McKee also announced earlier Thursday that flags were to be lowered in remembrance of the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on New York City and Washington, D.C.
Authorities said that the suspect in Kirk’s death is still at large.
