McKee provides updates on storm preparedness

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Gov. Dan McKee provided an update on how Rhode Island has prepared for the upcoming winter storm.

McKee said that the Rhode Island Department of Transportation has 200 state trucks and more than 250 vendor trucks ready for the storm, as well as 50,000 tons of salt available.

 The Office of Energy Resources and Rhode Island Energy are monitoring for possible power disruptions caused by the storm.

McKee said the following warming centers will be available:

  • West Warwick Convention Center, 100 Factory St. –Open Feb. 8 at 4:30 p.m. until 10 a.m. Feb. 11
  • Westerly WARM Center, 56 Spruce St. – Open 24 hours for the winter months
  • Woonsocket at 356 Clinton St. – Open 24 hours for the winter months
  • Crossroads Rhode Island at 162 Broad St. in Providence
  • Emmanuel House at 239 Public St in Providence – Open 24 hours
  • Welcome House of South County at 8 North Rd. in South Kingstown – Open 24 hours
  • OpenDoors at 1139 Main St. in Pawtucket – Open 24 hours

Rhode Island State Police has called in extra troopers who will be monitoring the highways and assisting motorists if needed.

McKee also advised residents to check in with older family members, friends, and neighbors to assure they are ready for the storm, and to use caution when shoveling and walking during the storm.
