McKee, Rhode Island Commerce sign off on 2nd round of ‘Take It Outside’ grants

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Rhode Island Gov. Dan McKee and Commerce Secretary Liz Tanner announced Tuesday that small businesses will receive a boost for their outdoor spaces.
Seven intermediary organizations representing small businesses in Rhode Island will receive the next round of “Take It Outside” grants over the next few months.
“The ‘Take It Outside’ initiative was born out of the pandemic as a way to keep our businesses operating in a safe manner,” McKee said. “While the pandemic is behind us, we’re proud to continue this initiative, which increases economic activity for our small businesses and promotes good public health practices.”
About $2.75 million in “Take It Outside” grants have supported over 350 small businesses in the state so far this year.
The additional $2 million announced Tuesday will go towards outdoor programs like Al Fresco on the Hill in Providence and the Make Music Day in Westerly.
“Thriving outdoor public spaces are good for both commerce and culture alike. For the third year in a row, Rhode Island is investing in projects that bring people together in towns and cities across the state,” said Lt. Gov. Sabina Matos. “These grants will empower our small businesses and make our communities more accessible.”
