McKee says federal funding approved for those affected by severe weather

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced federal disaster assistance has been made available to the Ocean State following the severe storms and flooding back in January.

The two declarations were for areas affected between Dec. 17 and Dec. 19, 2023, and for Jan. 9 to Jan. 13, 2024.

McKee said federal funding is now available for individuals and businesses impacted on those dates in Kent, Providence, and Washington counties.

Individuals can receive grants for temporary housing, home repairs, and disaster legal services, while businesses can apply for low-interest loans.

Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures statewide.

Robert V. Fogel has been named the federal coordinating officer for federal recovery operations in the affected areas.

Individuals can apply for assistance by registering online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov, calling 1-800-621-3362, or by using the FEMA app.

Small businesses can apply for assistance through the U.S. Small Business Administration.
