McKee signs trio of gun bills into law

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Gov. Dan McKee signed a trio of gun bills into law on Tuesday.
The signed legislation includes a ban on large-capacity gun magazines, raises the legal age to purchase firearms or ammunition from 18 to 21, and makes the definition of “rifle” and “shotgun” consistent with federal law — and will prohibit open carry of any loaded rifle or shotgun in public.
“Our nation is in crisis. This crisis has taken too many lives and torn apart too many families. Today, Rhode Island is answering that call,” said McKee Tuesday.
The slate of gun bills was considered in the wake of multiple mass shootings — including in Buffalo, New York, and Uvalde, Texas.
