WEST WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — Gov. Dan McKee signed a bill Wednesday allowing unaffiliated voters to remain unaffiliated after participating in party primaries in the state.

The governor was joined by Secretary of State Gregg Amore and bill sponsors Rep. Patricia Serpa and Sen. Leonidas Raptakis.

Traditionally, voters in the state would need to submit paperwork in order to change their party affiliation before taking part in a primary.

The new law allows voters to vote on Election Day without choosing an affiliation.
