Medical Examiner determines man’s death in gunfight with police as suicide

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) — The Medical Examiner determined the man killed during a gunfight with police in July died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.
The Medical Examiner determined 38-year-old Domonick Knight’s manner of death as a suicide.
Around 1:30 a.m. officers responded to multiple calls from family members reporting a man was “expressing suicidal ideations” and possessed a firearm.
Police immediately secured the area and began evacuating residents in the area and family members inside the house.
Around 2:25 a.m., a crisis negotiator responded and attempted to communicate with Knight through phone calls, text messages, and a loudspeaker, but the attempts were unsuccessful, police said.
After almost an hour of unsuccessful attempts, police breached the front door around 3:15 a.m., according to Fall River police.
Police said Knight then fired at the officers from the top of the stairs, causing police to fire back and move away from the entryway.
Around 3:18 a.m., police said officers located Knight at the top of the stairs with two guns in his proximity.
Knight suffered a gunshot wound and was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
