Meet the Candidates: Walter Berbrick

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — ABC 6 News spoke with Democratic candidate for the 1st Congressional District election, Walter Berbrick on Wednesday.

A political newcomer, former faculty member at the U.S. Naval War College in Newport and veteran of the United States Navy, Berbrick said he feels his experience on the front-lines helped him to understand the needs of Rhode Islanders.

“Being able to have the experience, the expertise and the background and I’m ready to hit the ground running — we’re at a time right now in our country where we have an economy that doesn’t work for everybody, we have women across our country who’ve lost their fundamental right to choose, kids in our community are constantly engulfed by gun violence, climate change is putting our planet in peril and we are one wrong decision away from fighting another preventable war. We need real leadership in congress now.” Berbrick said.

The special election for the 1st Congressional District seat to replace former Rep. David Cicilline will take place on Sept. 5.
