Memorial Day events around southern New England
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Westport’s parade will start gathering around 8 a.m., before stepping off at 9:30 from town hall to Beech Grove Cemetery.
Following Westport’s parade, the town will host a ceremony honoring those who served.
That ceremony will be at Beech Grove Cemetery within the town which is where the parade will end.
That kicks off at 10 a.m.
In South Kingstown, Senator Jack Reed will join parade goers as they head to Saugatucket Park Veterans Monument, and that parade steps off at 10 a.m.
Also at 10, the East Providence parade heads from Old Oldham School to the American Legion Post 10 office.
Woonsocket will be holding their Memorial Day observance at 11 a.m.
That ceremony will be taking place at the city’s World War II Veterans Memorial Park.
Flag ceremonies will be conducted at the event by Woonsocket’s fire and police department honor guards.
The ceremony will include a recitation of the poem “A Whisper in the Wind.”
Elsewhere in the Blackstone Valley, Pawtucket’s Memorial Day ceremony will also be kicking off at 11 a.m.
That will be held at Veterans Park, which is on the corner of Roosevelt Avenue and Exchange Street.
Local officials, community leaders, and veterans will all speak at the event.
