A growing memorial of flowers and candles now marks the spot where 21-year-old Brooklyn Rodrigues and 18-year-old Meghan Sargent were killed in a car crash Monday night.

“It still hasn’t really hit any of us,” said a co-worker of Sargent’s.

The 18-year-old band leader was set to graduate from Fairhaven High school in just five days.

“She was a very free spirited. She loved life and was a very happy person. She never said anything bad about anyone,” said that same co-worker.

Were told Rodrigues was driving on Fairhaven Road in Mattapoisett when the car lost control, hit the curb and flipped several times.

Patrick Catoe was first on scene after the crash.

“I heard a crash walked outside told my mom to go call 911 and rushed out, looked at the car… there was nothing that could be done,” said Catoe.

The 21-year-old had just finished up a shift at the Hollywood Scoop down the road when the crash happened.

“He’s been a member of our staff only a few weeks but he’s been phenomenal and just a pleasure to work with. Always pleasant… singing… having a good time,” said Rodrigues’ boss, Lori Trueheart.

A Go Fund Me page has been set up to help cover funeral costs for the victims, which can be located at: GoFundMe.com/vh9t8ss. The ice cream shop where Rodrigues worked will hold a fundraiser on June 7th.

The cause of this crash remains under investigation.
