EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I (WLNE) – A memorial is growing for 38-year-old Jennifer Cabral who was hit and killed by a pickup truck while crossing the street on Sunday.

Friends and family are now bringing pictures and flowers to the corner of Warren Ave. and Ingraham St. to honor Cabral.

“She always put a smile on people’s faces,” said Cabral’s brother, Chris Pacheco. “If she saw someone down, she would cheer them up and give them a word of encouragement. She would tell them there’s always hope.”

Cabral leaves behind a 17-year-old son named Jordan. Her family said she was an amazing mother.

“She worked very hard to always make sure her son was taken care of,” said Pacheco.

Cabral worked at Linn Health and Rehab center, not far from where the accident happened.

“This is a very difficult day. This a tragedy for our community,” said Richard Gamache, Cabral’s boss.

He said she worked in the laundry department, but touched everyone at the center.

“She was as sweet as can be,” said Gamache. “She was a very positive spirit here, and we’re truly going to miss her.”

Linn Health and Rehab is offering its employees and residents grief counseling in the wake of Cabral’s loss.

Gamache said they will also have a memorial service for Cabral sometime next week.

Cabral’s family is asking for help to cover the sudden funeral expenses. They are asking for all donations to be made directly to Rebello Funeral Home.

The driver of the pickup truck is cooperating with police. Police say speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash and that charges will not be filed.
