Memorial motorcycle event held in honor of correctional officer who died from COVID-19

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — Family and friends of a correctional officer who died from COVID-19 held a memorial motorcycle event in honor of him Monday.

Officer Richard Charchia, 55, died in December of 2021.

He worked for the Department of Corrections for more than two years.

The “Beyond the Call of Duty Memorial Ride” started at 8 a.m. outside of the maximum security facility in Cranston.
