Providence Police have arrested two men in connection to a rash of break-ins on the East Side.
One of the homes broken into was that of Chief Operating Officer of the city of Providence, Brett Smiley.
On Sunday morning around 2:30 a.m., Smiley was at his home in the College Hill area of the city, where he heard noises coming from his garage. That when he witnessed a man flee the home.
Monday morning, police arrested the suspect, identified as 49-year-old Kevin Robertson.
A second subject, 18-year-old Justice McLaren, was also charged with one count of breaking and entering for an incident that occurred on November 8, 2014 in the Mount Hope area of the City.
Both Robertson and McLaren are being investigated and could possibly be involved in additional break-ins on the East Side.
“Our officers have been working vigilantly to ensure that the subjects responsible for these recent break-ins are apprehended,” said Colonel Clements. “We hope that by taking these players off the street we will see a major decline in the number of breaks. We will continue to be vigilant in our response to crime throughout the City.”
