Messy Sunday Morning!
We’re waking up to a wintry mess on this Sunday morning. After a few inches of snow (most reports in our area between 1-4″ so far this morning), as well as sleet and freezing rain early this morning, our wintry mix is dwindling as rain takes over.
That said, with that wintry mix not gone just yet, and active weather revamping throughout the day, be incredibly careful on the roads as slick and somewhat icy conditions are still expected, especially for areas of northern Bristol County (MA) and northern Providence County.
We’ll have a brief lull in precipitation as some dry air works its way into this storm, but will see rain ramp back up (becoming heavy at times) into the afternoon and evening. With the amount of precipitation we’ve already seen, plus the incoming rain, be careful of ponding on roadways, as well as some localized flooding in areas of poor drainage. It’s also important to note that due to all of our precipitation/runoff, the Wood River at Hope Valley and the Pawcatuck River at Westerly are both expected to reach action stage by Monday afternoon and Monday night, respectively. While true flooding is not expected, high water is expected for the Wood River until very early Tuesday morning, and the Pawcatuck until Tuesday afternoon.
While the storm leaves tonight, there are some new issues left behind, namely some very gusty winds that will stay with us through Monday evening. Gusts between tonight and tomorrow could get up to 50 mph for most of us around Rhode Island and eastern Massachusetts. For that reason, we have a Wind Advisory in place from 7 PM tonight through 7 PM tomorrow. Gusts in Central Mass could reach 60 mph, which has put the area in a High Wind Warning for the same time frame.
Those winds usher in colder air back into southern New England. High temperatures will only reach the upper 20s on Monday afternoon (even with the sunshine we’ll see). Highs will stay in the 20s on Tuesday and Wednesday with sunshine continuing as well. While temperatures remain similar on Thursday, we’re on the lookout for more active weather with our next potential storm. Stay tuned for more throughout the week!
