Met High School student accused of bringing gun into school
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A 16-year-old male Met High School student was taken into custody by Providence police Monday after allegedly bringing a firearm into the school.
According to Providence Chief Public Information Officer for Public Safety Kristy DosReis, officers responded to the 325 Public Street school at approximately 11 a.m. when where they were informed by school staff of the student’s alleged firearm possession.
According to DosReis, the student had already been detained by staff and the firearm had been secured prior to police arrival.
The student was taken into police custody, and officers took possession of the firearm, according to DosReis.
The mother of the student was at the school and cooperated with staff in the incident.
The student has been charged with possession of a firearm without a license and possession of a firearm on school grounds, according to DosReis.
He is now being held at the Rhode Island Training School.
