Middleborough police honor life and service of retired officer

MIDDLEBOROUGH, Mass. (WLNE) — The Middleborough Police Department is remembering the life and service of one of its retired officers who passed away Wednesday.

According to the department, retired Officer Ronald Costa, 72, was a 30-year veteran of the Middleborough Police Department prior to becoming a reserve officer.

Officials said he passed away Wednesday surrounded by loved ones.

The department said Costa graduated from Taunton High School in 1969 and enlisted in the U.S. Army and Army National Guard. He was honorably discharged in August of 1973.

After serving in the military, he graduated from the Fall River Police Academy in April of 1980 and later joined the Middleborough Police Department.

During his years with the department, Costa received multiple letters of appreciation and commendation for his work. He officially retired from the department in 2010, however, he served as a retired reserve special officer until his passing.
