Middletown man dies after motorcycle crash in Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (WLNE) — The Portsmouth Police Department said a Middletown man has died from his injuries after a motorcycle crash on June 5.

Police responded to the area of West Main Road at the Route 24 North on-ramp around 4 p.m. on June 5 for a crash involving one motorcycle.

Reports received by police said that the operator appeared to be unconscious and unresponsive.

At the scene, police identified the operator as 36-year-old Juan Pablo Garcia Castro, of Middletown.

Garcia Castro was initially taken to St. Anne’s Hospital, then airlifted to Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

On June 9, the department discovered Garcia Castro had died from his injuries.

Initial investigation showed that he entered the highway in the left lane, and when entering the curve, he changed lanes and struck a guardrail.

When he struck the guardrail, Garcia Castro was ejected from the motorcycle.

Police said he was wearing a helmet during the crash.

The incident remains under investigation.
