Middletown police arrest father and son after seizing 79 guns from home

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — A Middletown man and his son were arrested after police seized 79 guns from their home.
Middletown police said they searched the home of Jeremy Speck on Lawrence Street around 7 a.m. Friday. The 43-year-old was found in possession of illegal firearms and ammunition, despite being banned from owning firearms.
Investigators said they found a total of 79 firearms, including a loaded handgun and an unsecured loaded AK-47. A large quantity of ammunition and a bullet-proof vest were also removed from the home.
Jeremy’s son, Xavier Speck, 24, told police that he had purchased the firearms for his father.
Jeremy Speck was charged with 51 counts possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a crime of violence, 2 counts of providing false information in attempting to purchase a firearm, and 1 count of possession of body armor by a person convicted of a crime of violence.
Xavier Speck was charged with 4 counts of providing false information to purchase a firearm.
Jeremy was released on a $15,000 surety bail. His son, Xavier, was released on a $2,500 surety bail.
Both men are scheduled to appear in Superior Court in June.
