Middletown town council votes against removing lanes on Upper East Main Road
MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — The town council has decided against removing lanes along Upper East Main Road.
The decision comes following a heated town council meeting last week where people in favor of and against the proposal from as far away as Newport and Portsmouth made their opinions heard.
The proposal would’ve turned the stretch of East Main Road to Wyatt Drive to Miller’s Lane into a three-lane route, with the purpose of slowing traffic in the area and improving safety for pedestrians and bicyclists.
But now, the Rhode Island of Transportation will move forward only with re-paving the road, but no other changes will be made.
