NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — A Middletown woman died from her injuries after getting ran over by a truck in Newport on Wednesday morning.

Newport police were called around 8 a.m. for a crash involving an electric bike and a Ford truck at the intersection of Admiral Kalbfus Road and Hillside Avenue.

Police said the driver of the truck, 53-year-old James Drape, was going east on Admiral Kalbfus Road and was going to turn left at the intersection.

The 34-year-old Middletown woman was riding her bike in the opposite direction.

The vehicles collided as the truck turned, running over the woman.

First responders rushed to save the woman and bring her to Newport Hospital, where she died. Her name was not immediately released.

Drape was cited for obedience to devices — red light, and due care by drivers.

The Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office is investigating whether he will face criminal charges.
