Mifepristone now available at pharmacies in RI and Mass.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Mifepristone is now available in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, according to CVS Pharmacy.

CVS Pharmacy has begun filling prescriptions from certified prescribers at pharmacy locations in Mass. and RI.

The pharmacy shared that mifepristone is only available through certified prescribers, and will not be an over-the-counter medication.

A spokesperson for CVS shared, “We have a long history of supporting and advancing women’s health and we remain focused on meeting their unique health needs. This includes providing access to safe, legal, and evidence-based reproductive health services, information and FDA-approved products.”

CVS shared that this is the beginning process of phasing in other states where it is legally permissible for pharmacies to fill this medication.
