WEST GREENWICH, R.I. (WLNE) – Even though Rhode Island is a long way from the birthplace of country music down in Tennessee, Southern New England still has plenty of ties to the music genre.

There’s a hidden gem in West Greenwich that’s connected to country music history.

When you step inside Mishnock Barn, it’s like you’ve stepped back in time– to a time when all that mattered was having your friends close and your dance partner closer.

“A lot of people are surprised that there’s a place like this out here,” said Addison Albro, the son of the barn’s owner.

Mishnock Barn is located right off I-95, but is one of the state’s best-kept secrets.

“You really have to hear about this place to find it,” said Albro.

Pictures and memorabilia line the barn’s walls and tell Southern New England’s country music history.

“This is a small part of the Rhode Island’s country music hall of fame,” said Albro.

Some of the faces in the pictures belong to Albro’s family, as he comes from a long line of country artists.

“Some of my relatives were in a bluegrass band and had their own TV show,” said Albro. “They were based out of the barn. There’s an outdoor stage and there were always bluegrass festivals here and lots of concerts.”

Along with learning about history at Mishnock Barn, you can also learn how to line dance.

Addison and his family teach beginner classes during the week for a $10 entrance fee.
