BRISTOL, RI (WLNE) – A main attraction every year during the countdown to the Bristol 4th of July parade is the Miss and Little Miss 4th of July pageants.
The winners of the pageants get to ride and wave to on-lookers as they march through the historic parade.
The Miss 4th of July pageant was created back in 1949, and with the event growing so big over the years the Little Miss 4th of July was added in 1997.
This year the auditorium at Mount Hope High School was packed as Jillian Fitting was crowned Miss 4th of July for 2019.
“It just feels surreal,” Fitting said. “I’m so excited and couldn’t be more proud.”
Mekayla Neves took the crown for the Little Miss 4th of July pageant.
“I wasn’t expecting it,” Neves said. “I just tried my hardest and just did the best I could.”
Waving on parade day is just one of their many duties.
They will attend concerts, the Bristol Town Ball, and the huge fireworks display.
Not to mention their duties continue after the parade as well for Christmas events and more.
A dream come true for the winners who both were born and raised in Bristol.
