An overnight snowfall that turned to sleet and freezing rain added up to a messy commute in Rhode Island during the first winter storm of the season.
Rhode Island State Police reported 30 accidents and spin-outs on roadways, as motorists made their way through the slush and ice on Tuesday.
A winter weather advisory issued by the National Weather Service expired by mid-morning.
Up to an inch of snow was reported in places including Cranston and Richmond, with about half an inch in Providence, according to unofficial reports released by the weather service.
The conditions on the roads are expected to continue to be dangerous into Wednesday, with ice forming on the roadways.
"I don’t like the ice at all. Ill take as much snow as you give me, but the ice scares me," said commuter Arthur Salisbury.
Another morning commuter said he was nervous for his drive out to Cape Cod. "I’ve got to be up at 530 in the morning," Oyan Thornton told ABC6 News. "And its most likely going to be very icy."
National Grid reported no significant outages late Tuesday morning.
