Moderate Party Chair Ken Block announces bid for governor

Moderate Party Chairman Ken Block announced Tuesday that he will make a second bid for Governor in 2014.
In 2010 Block put the Moderate Party on the Rhode Island political map when he received 6.5% of the vote statewide. Block came in fourth place behind Governor Chafee, Republican John Robitaille, and Democrat Frank Caprio.
Block was previously the President of the bi-partisan group “RI Tax Payers” formerly known as “Rhode Island Statewide Coalition.” The group said Block announced his resignation late last week prior to his announcement.
“This election must be about who has the skills and vision to lead Rhode Island out of the financial mess we are in,” said Block. “It can't come down to a choice between status quo candidates who raise staggering amounts of money from special interests outside of the state, or candidates who are completely bereft of ideas. I intend to run a strong campaign with the vision and ideas necessary to convince voters that I am the best possible choice for fixing our state.”
Other likely hopefuls include incumbent Independent Governor Lincoln Chafee, Cranston Mayor Allan Fung, General Treasurer Gina Raimondo and Providence Mayor Angel Taveras.
