Moms Demand Action leader shares thoughts on NH primary
NASHUA, N.H. (WLNE) — Moms Demand Action is a bipartisan organization working to end gun violence in the United States.
Marcella Dube, a campaign lead for the group, works on passing what the organization believes are ‘common sense’ gun laws in New Hampshire, like red flag laws and a 72-hour waiting period from purchase to possession.
Dube said Tuesday morning she would be writing in President Joe Biden on the ballot.
The decision stemmed from a dispute between National Democrats and the State Party in New Hampshire, over whether or not the state should boast the ‘first in the nation’ democratic primary.
But, with Biden very likely to be the democratic candidate, Dube says voting the President is an easy choice, citing his effort to get gun control moved through congress and establishing the first-ever ‘Office of Gun Violence Prevention’.
Dube says republican candidate Nikki Haley and former President Donald Trump are not talking about gun safety and violence prevention enough.
“Right now, I do not want to own a gun so I can feel safe going to Walmart. I do not want to have to own a gun so that I feel safe going to the grocery store. I do not want have to own a gun so I feel safe picking up my children,” Dube said. “That’s insane, so that’s where a lot of my passion comes from.”
“My right to safety does not override your right to carry that weapon,” Dube continued. “Illegally, irresponsibly, any of it.”
Republican candidates Haley and Trump have been focusing their campaigns on border security, the economy and their ability to win against Biden in November.
Trump ultimately came out on top over Haley in the primary and appears poised to face off against Biden in the General Election.
