SCIUATE, R.I. (WLNE) — Major health concerns at the Scituate Police Department prompted a special meeting Thursday evening.

Last week it was discovered that the department has been riddled with mold, asbestos, and lead paint.

The Town Council President said this issue is not new, claiming the town has known about it since 2014, but no one took the responsibility to take care of it.

It’s still unclear if authorities will build a new station, or just renovate the current one, but in the mean time the Scituate Town Council voted to approve $65,000 for setting up temporary facilities for police staff.

The department will vacate the building immediately and a temporary trailer will house dispatch.

No further details are available at this time.
