More debris found after wind turbine damaged off Nantucket coast

NANTUCKET, Mass. (WLNE) — More debris has been found after an offshore Vineyard Wind Turbine was damaged last week, and fell into the ocean.
Federal officials ordered the shut down of Vineyard Wind, according to a report from WCVB, after pieces of floating debris and sharp fiberglass were found in the water.
The Nantucket Harbormaster closed swimming on all south shore beaches because of the debris, however they have since been reopened.
According to a report from WCVB, Vineyard Wind were deploying teams to search Nantucket’s southern beaches for any debris that has washed ashore after one of its offshore wind turbine blades was damaged.
In a news release, Vineyard Vines said that following report Sunday morning from the Nantucket Harbormaster that debris from the damaged wind turbine blade was located offshore near Madequecham Valley Road, beach crews were immediately dispatched to the area, along with aerial review of the broader area by helicopter.
“Vineyard Wind personnel on the beach are monitoring for debris to assist in maintaining safe conditions for beachgoers and swimmers. Vineyard Wind is focused on assisting in the recovery of debris caused by GE Vernova’s damaged wind blade,” stated the release.

Debris was also found on a Friday and Saturday on Monomoy Island.
