NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — Save the Bay said that more than 200 swimmers swam through the Narragansett Bay’s East Passage in the 47th Save The Bay Swim.

The event raised funds for the organization’s mission to support ongoing advocacy, habitat restoration, and education efforts.

The swim is a two mile route that ran from the shore of the Naval War College in Newport to Potter Cove in Jamestown, and is the organization’s largest yearly fundraiser.

It is also the only organized swim that runs through the East Passage.

The organization, alongside Swim Ambassador, Olympian and Rhode Island native Elizabeth Beisel, presented awards to long-time swimmers who has participated for five, 10, 15, 20, 25, or 30 years.

The organization is also inviting the public to take part in the Save the Bay Open, an alternative that offers participants the opportunity to choose their own physical challenge to complete their way and on their own time.
