Morgan endorses Trillo for Governor

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — In a snub to Republican candidate for Governor Allan Fung, his opponent in the primary Patricia Morgan instead threw her support behind the independent Thursday. bl
“I am here to endorse Joe Trillo to be Rhode Island’s next Governor, and I’m very pleased to do it. I know his character, I know what he stands for, and I know he’s a fighter,” said Morgan.
Trillo, a former Republican, says he’s happy to have the support of his longtime colleague in the House.
“My longtime friend, a person who I agree with about 98 percent of the time on policy and on the issues that are facing the state,” said Trillo.
“He is a small businessman. He has helped companies to grow, and that’s what Rhode Island needs,” said Morgan.
The pair wasted no time criticizing Mayor Fung.
“I think if you take a good hard look at him, you’ll see that he’s a very flawed candidate,” said Trillo.
Morgan says unlike Fung, Trillo actually has a shot at winning
“I believe he is the only person who can beat Gina Raimondo,” said Morgan.
Fung downplayed the news late Thursday.
“All I can say is you’ve got two Smithfield insiders cutting another deal. If they’re afraid of the reforms and changes that I’m going to be bringing to the State House, then so be it,” said Fung.
