Warwick Police are investigating after a motorcyclist was critically injured in an accident Monday afternoon.

57-year-old Arthur Pelliccia, of North Providence, was transported to Rhode Island Hospital in extremely critical condition after police say he lost control of his motorcycle on Greenwich Avenue.

Investigation revealed that Pelliccia was traveling south on the street before making a u-turn and heading north. The motorcycle appeared to have flipped over, throwing Pelliccia from the vehicle. He was not wearing a helmet.

Witnesses say a green, older model minivan-type vehicle exited Vancouver Avenue and slowed down at the motorcyclist approached. They say Pelliccia appeared to exchange words with the operator of the minivan prior to the crash, but there did not appear to be contact or a collision of the vehicles.

Police say the minivan operator continued toward Route 113 and may not be aware of the crash. Anyone with information on who the operator of this vehicle may be is asked to contact the Warwick Police Traffic Division at (401) 468-4343.

Speed of the motorcycle appears to be a factor in the crash and there are no indications of alcohol.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
