MSP officers testify in Karen Read retrial

DEDHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — A Massachusetts state police lieutenant who helped collect evidence the night of John O’Keefe’s death testified on Tuesday.

State police were looking for pieces of a tail light and a sneaker at the scene on Fairview Road back in January of 2022.

According to the lieutenant, officers used shovels, rakes, and brooms.

Another Massachusetts state trooper testified that Karen Read called O’Keefe 52 times in the hours before his body was found.

Read left O’Keefe eight voicemails that night.

Prosecutors allege Read hit and killed O’Keefe after dropping him off at a party hosted by another officer.

Her lawyers said she was framed and someone inside the home must have killed him.

The first trial ended in a hung-jury.
