MSPCA waiving adoption fees for over 100 animals at Nevins Farm
METHUEN, Mass. (WLNE) — MSPCA-Angell announced it is waiving adoption fees for over 100 animals at Nevins Farm during a two-day open house farm adoption event.
From 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on June 7 and 8, the adoption fees for over 100 pigs, goats, chickens, and fouls will be waived.
This comes after 147 animals were removed from one property on April 16. The former owner of the animals surrendered them on April 22.
MSPCA said it is “sending a call for help to the community” due to the large intake of animals. According to the organization, there are over 300 animals being cared for at Nevins Farm.
“We need to find homes for a lot of these animals and fast,” MSPCA-Angell Animal Protection Divison Vice President Mike Keiley said. “We typically see more cases of neglect in turbulent economic times and, given what we’re already seeing with the increasing costs of hay and feed, I expect more animals will need to come to Nevins soon, whether through owner surrender or related to Law Enforcement cases…but we won’t have space for them unless we’re able to adopt out many of the animals already in our care.”
MSPCA said registration is recommended, but not required.
