Mt. Hope dedicates next Musicafe show to former student who died in New York crash

Bristol, R.I. (WLNE) — Mt. Hope High School’s music program said it will dedicate its next Musicafe performance to a former student who died in a midnight car accident in Utica, New York on Firday.

The Utica Police Department confirmed that Elysia LeBeau was killed in a car accident shortly after midnight on Friday.

The department said that officers responded to Culver Avenue to find two cars suffering major damage and both drivers unresponsive.

LeBeau, who was 21-years-old, was declared dead on the scene, while the other driver, a 17-year-old, was transported to a local hospital, where they were also pronounced deceased.

Mt. Hope’s music program said in a social media post that LeBeau was a four-year member of the choral department, served as president of the chorus during her senior year, and had a “great love” for Musicafe, a series of open mics held at the school.

“No one in the first few years of that event put more time and effort into our shows, both behind the scenes and in front of the microphone,” the school said.

The Musicafe performance on Oct. 5 will be dedicated to LeBeau, and the school is asking anyone who knew her to come to the event to remember and say hello to old friends.”

The Utica Police Department is still investigating the crash, and asks anyone with information to contact the department at 315-223-3510.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of both operators during this very difficult time,” the department said.
