Multi-million gallon raw sewage overflow affects Taunton River

TAUNTON, Mass. (WLNE) — Residents of Taunton should avoid the Taunton River after a raw sewage overflow. 

Officials say the overflow happened on West Water Street after the recent rain.  

Residents in the area are advised to avoid coming into contact with the river water for the next 48 hours while the overflow clears.  

So far more than 2.5 million gallons of raw sewage made its way into the river.
