WESTERLY, R.I (WLNE) – Multiple law enforcement agencies are on the scene of an active shooting situation that started at the Babcock Village retirement complex in Westerly.

Three victims have been confirmed in the shooting.

The shooting happened on Cross Street, less than a mile from Westerly High School.

Because of this, All Westerly Public Schools were temporarily placed on lockdown, and have canceled all after school activities for the day.

According to a Westerly Hospital spokesperson, the hospital was also on temporary lockdown, and they did receive one victim of the shooting of unknown condition.

While Westerly Hospital is no longer on lockdown, they are still on heightened security.

Rhode Island Hospital also confirmed they received one victim of unknown condition who is currently being evaluated.

Boston ATF tweeted that Special Agents from the Providence Field Office are also assisting.

“We are shocked and saddened that this tragedy has occurred. Our priority, as always, is the safety of our residents and staff. We are working with law enforcement to address this situation, and further questions should be referred to the Westerly Police and Rhode Island State Police”, said Babcock Village spokesperson, Michael Masseur.

This is a developing story and more details will be added as they become more available.
