Multiple swimmers rescued from water off East Beach in Charlestown

CHARLESTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) – Charlestown rescue crews responded to a call for two swimmers in the water at East Beach Friday afternoon.
Upon arriving at the scene, authorities observed multiple swimmers in the water, who were holding on to a rescue board about 400 yards off shore.
Rescue swimmers, deployed with tethers, pulled the swimmers back to shore. One was injured.
A total of five patients were treated by rescue crews. They refused further care.
