Stanfield has a lengthy criminal record including a 2nd degree sexual assault conviction that dates back to 1990.
In court, Stanfield fell to the floor, crying. He was dragged out of the courtroom for a few minutes so he could compose himself. When he returned, he whimpered through the entire arraignment.
He was held without bail and sent to superior court to answer two prior felony violations; one for failing to register as a sex offender and for violating a restraining order.
East Providence Police Chief, Christopher Parella said, “I think we did everything we possibly could. He acted in a very quick period of time. I think the system does work, unfortunately like I said, domestics are very, very difficult.”
On Friday, Christine Santurri went to the police station and filed a report after Stanfield texted and called her multiple times, threatening to quote, “break her face.”
“As far as locating a person like this, it’s very difficult. He’s been in and out of shelters. He hasn’t had an address for a long period of time. We involved other agencies to try to find him but were just unable to and more than likely he was probably living in the woods somewhere right over there near her apartment,” said Parella.
On Mother’s Day, Stanfield took police on a wild chase through the woods and Bullock Cove where he was arrested, covered in mud.
Police say he had just stabbed the Santurri in front of her 21–year–old daughter.
The suspect’s daughter spoke briefly outside court. Quesha Stanfield said, “We all were shocked. We really can’t even say anything. All I can say is I’m sorry for the family. It’s sad that he did that.”
