MYSTIC, Conn. (WLNE) — Mystic Aquarium said that it was assisting more than a dozen cold-stunned sea turtles from the New England Aquarium to recover and return to the ocean.

The aquarium said that its Animal Rescue Program assisted sea turtles every year.

Cold-stunning happens when sea turtles are exposed to cold temperatures for an extended period, and causes them to become weak and inactive.

The aquarium said that cold-stunning occurs off New England and especially in the Cape Cod Bay.
