MYSTIC, Conn. (WLNE) – Six endangered sea turtles are back in the ocean after receiving treatment from Mystic Aquarium’s Animal Rescue Clinic.

The Kemp’s ridley turtles were brought into the clinic in mid-December after being found in Massachusetts, stunned from a sudden water temperature drop. The turtles were rehabilitated over the course of several weeks, until they gained enough weight and could swim on their own.

Early this week the turtles were flown from Marshfield Airport to North Carolina, where they were released into warm water off of Fort Macon State Park.

Kemp’s ridley turtles are the world’s most endangered species of sea turtle.
