A town official in North Attleboro is in hot water over Facebook posts he made that some are calling racist.
Paul Couturier, a member of a local town board, posted controversial memes about Muslims and First Lady Michelle Obama.
One post depicts a shark saying, "throw me a Muslim," and another shows a picture of a gorilla that reads, "a rare glimpse of the First Lady on vacation."
Couturier, an Iraq War veteran, says it’s his First Amendment right to post what he wants on social media.
"I’m an American. I have freedom, First Amendment freedom of free speech. If people don’t like it–if they don’t like what I post–they can de-friend me," said Couturier.
He is currently seeking reelection for his position on the Resident Town Meeting Board.
