NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (WLNE) — The Narragansett Police Department announced the appointment of a new chief Thursday.

Kyle Rekas, who currently serves as a captain, will take the role currently held by Chief Sean Corrigan, who will retire on November 8.

Rekas will take over the role of chief at 3 p.m. on November 8.

“Kyle Rekas is a perfect fit for the role, and I have faith that he will excel as a strong leader in this position,” said Chief Corrigan, who has been with the department for 28 years.

“His excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to handle high-pressure situations, and his capacity to relate to and respond effectively to community needs will undoubtedly serve him well as the new Chief of the Narragansett Police Department. I wish him the best of luck and my full support as he begins this new chapter.”

Rekas joined the department as a patrol officer in 1999, working his way up as a detective, patrol sergeant, patrol lieutenant, prosecution lieutenant and Administrative Services Captain.

“Taking over for Chief Corrigan will be no easy task. He has been a tremendous leader over these past years and will be missed,” said Rekas.

“I am absolutely honored to be named the Chief of Police in Narragansett; it is truly a dream come true, and I am looking forward to the challenge.”
