Narragansett Police Department mourns unexpected loss of former deputy chief

NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (WLNE) — A retired longtime member of the Narragansett Police Department died unexpectedly last week.

The department said 58-year-old Gerald “Gerry” Driscoll died on Thursday.

“It is with great sadness and deep appreciation for his service that we announce the passing of retired Deputy Chief Gerald Driscoll who served the people of Narragansett for over 25 years,” the department said in a social media post. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Deputy Chief Driscoll. May he rest in peace.”

Driscoll joined the department as a patrolman working the midnight shift in 1987.

He was promoted through the ranks and became Deputy Chief in 2010.

After he retired in 2012, Driscoll served as an investigator for the Rhode Island Department of Revenue.

Visiting hours will be held Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home in Wakefield.
