Narragansett police to send honor patrols in search of impaired drivers this New Year’s

NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (WLNE) — The Narragansett Police Department will send honor patrols out on the roads looking for impaired drivers this New Year’s weekend.

The department partnered with Mother’s Against Drunk Driving Rhode Island to send out patrols dedicated to the memory of DUI crash victims.

The Saturday night honor patrol will be for Frank Perry Jr., who died in an impaired driving crash on Oct. 8, 2018, while he was on the way home from the Columbus Day Weekend Festival on Federal Hill. Police said Perry left behind two sons, ages 2 and 8.

The honor patrol on Sunday night will be in memory of Brigid Kelly, who died in an impaired driving crash on Dec. 1, 2001 on Route 1 in North Kingstown. Police said Kelly was killed when the impaired driver of a stolen minivan hit another vehicle, then hit Kelly’s vehicle head-on. Kelly was a student at Salve Regina University.

“Honor patrols seek to raise public awareness of the cost of impaired driving, while simultaneously taking impaired drivers off the road,” said Chief Sean Corrigan.

“As always, I want to ask anyone who is impaired to give up their keys and let someone else drive this holiday season. It’s a decision that can and will save lives, and a decision that could spare drivers from the high cost of a DUI conviction,” he said.
