Narragansett Restaurants prep for rain, crowds on Labor Day

NARRAGANSETT, RI (WLNE) — Labor Day, the holiday that marks the final celebration of summer, bringing crowds to Southern New England despite the overcast weather.
“Labor Day is definitely one of our busiest weekends,” Claire Cahir, an Event Coordinator and Manager for George’s of Galilee said.
Restaurants, fully staffing the weekend in preparation for visitors and out of towners.
“It’s typically a busy weekend, last night we actually almost hit a record for orders so we had a line down past the sign to the sea wall up until probably 8:30, 9:00,” Grace Ragozzino, Manager at Monahan’s Clam Shack said.
Saturday and Sunday brought beautiful weather for the beach, but Monday bringing a few extra clouds, changing the holiday prep for some rain.
“We have our like covered patio area so we’ll shut down the umbrellas and if you’re eating here you have to eat under the patio but most people will probably take it to go at that point,” Courtney Essex, also a Monahan’s Clam Shack Manager said.
“We’re gonna have live music on the covered deck and we’re gonna go out with the big bang this Labor Day weekend,” Cahir said.
The holiday signifies the end of summer, but also the start of school, which brings different business to town.
“With the weather we’re not quite sure what’s going to happen,” Ragozzino said, “I feel like it’s not going to be too bad,” Essex added.
“With URI move-in we typically do get a lot of the students coming back,” said Ragozzino.
The summer send-off is bittersweet, but the transition into fall is something people are looking forward to.
“We are excited to have whomever come and enjoy that last taste of summer,” Cahir added.
